About Us

One of the great strengths of our store is the booksellers who make it all possible. Our staff devours books, each with their own inclinations but all with voracity and enthusiasm.

Casey

Casey

Casey Coonerty Protti is the second generation owner of Bookshop Santa Cruz. She loves fiction, biography and history books but recently has only managed to read Goodnight Moon 575 times with her three year old daughter, Claire, and her nine month old son, Devin. Mostly, she spends her time looking for ways to further her parent’s legacy of community bookselling.

Kat

Katsronaut

Kat first came to Bookshop Santa Cruz by winning the short story contest in 2008. She convinced the management to give her a job, and has since become an event host, a used book buyer and an avid connoisseur of fiction. In her other life, she is a docent at Natural Bridges State Beach and works part-time for Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks. She is often found enjoying tacos.

Flannery

On the attack

Flannery’s life has been about books since before she could read, but she also loves baking, kitties, and great white sharks. A hopeless devotee of Harry Potter, Lisbeth Salander, and Jon Krakauer, this Santa Cruz native has been working at Bookshop for about a year and a half now, and can usually be found admiring the art books.

Cookies with the girls

Before she became a mother of twins, Stefanie loved to spend her spare time cooking, gardening, crafting, and watching her beloved Giants. Now that she has no spare time, she manages to enjoy those pursuits only when she’s able to convince her toddlers to join her. She has been the cookbook buyer at Bookshop Santa Cruz for over 15 years.

Saraphine

Saraphine has been working at local, independent book stores since 2005 and has successfully evaded working any Harry Potter midnight release parties. When not buying used books, selling new books, or shelving crafts books, she enjoys sleeping and pretending to be a housewife.
